Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. and Hoag Charity Sports have narrowed down the 11 finalists and have officially selected the winners for the 17th annual Toshiba Classic Scholarship Program. Three exceptional high school seniors shined throughout the extensive application and interview process and were each awarded $5,000 scholarships.
The 2017 Toshiba Classic Scholarship winners include:
Elaine Huang from Beckman High School. Elaine is not only a brilliant violinist and pianist, but she helps others through her passion for music. Elaine led the Beckman Echo Club, which is a non-profit student organization that uses music to raise funds for underprivileged children and hosts monthly recitals at local hospitals. Elaine plans to use her scholarship and remarkable thirst for learning to one day become a doctor.
Aurnov Chattopadhyay from University High School. With more than 600 hours of community service, holding the position of President for a variety of clubs/organizations such as Scientastic Nonprofit and the Speech and Debate Team and already contributing significant research in two university labs, Aurnov is one gifted and well-rounded individual. His scholarship will go towards an engineering degree at Columbia University, which he starts this fall.
Sarah Catania from Costa Mesa High School. Sarah is impressive not only in the classroom but also on the court and in the pool too. In addition to being on the Principal’s Academic Excellence Honor Roll, Sarah is a decorated athlete in tennis, swimming and water polo. Sarah’s drive and love of science, in addition to her scholarship, will definitely help put her on the right path to achieving her goal of becoming a physician specializing in obstetrics and gynecology.
“We are deeply honored to be able to help launch the college careers of some truly outstanding students,” said Jake Rohrer, Toshiba Classic Scholarship Committee Chairman. “This program has developed into an amazing legacy – which after 17 years – is nearly as old as our honorees! We look forward to continuing to give back to our community.”
Throughout the scholarship program’s history, a total of 196 Toshiba laptops and $324,000 have been awarded to exceptional Orange County high school students.
Congratulations to our well-deserving winners!
