Tournament History
Charity
The Toshiba Classic is the largest and most exciting annual event in Orange County. 150 sponsors, 1200 volunteers and 85,000 spectators support the Toshiba Classic each year, providing the means for a tournament that produces record earnings for charity, and an event that had become a tradition in the Orange County community.
The tournament is operated by Hoag Hospital Foundation, and as such, the profits from the Toshiba Classic benefit Hoag Hospital’s Centers of Excellence. The tournament generates over $1,000,000 for charity annually, and our thirteen year total exceeds $13 million. In addition to Hoag, tournament proceeds have also been contributed to more than 45 other charities. The Toshiba Classic Scholarship Program has provided over $209,000 in scholarships and support to local schools and over $400,000 worth of Toshiba laptops to deserving local high schools and seniors. Through the successful “Shot from the Top” event, more than $150,000 Toshiba laptops have been donated to local classrooms to help with the growing need for technology. Other groups involved with the tournament include the Newport Beach Explorer Scouts and Daughters of the American Revolution who donate hours of work to help make the tournament a success.
The tournament also provides additional benefit to the community beyond the charitable impact. The Toshiba Classic is televised domestically on The Golf Channel, and internationally on PGA Tour television partners overseas. This exposure for our community provides benefits that are immeasurable, and the positive light shed on Orange County residually impacts the businesses and individuals who reside here. In addition, the tournament fills local hotel rooms, restaurants and businesses during the competition, providing an enormous influx of dollars into our economy. In fact, a recent independent study by Economic Research Associates calculated the impact of this tournament to exceed $26 million in economic impact.

552 Club Background
The Toshiba Classic is backed by the resources of Hoag Hospital Foundation's 552 Club, the oldest and largest support group of Hoag Hospital.
The 552 Club is a community-based support group of volunteers and donors dedicated to promoting and financially supporting Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian. The 552 Club has raised funds for construction of the Patty & George Hoag Cancer Center, construction of Hoag Heart and Vascular Institute's Cardiac Outpatient Center, expansion and renovation of the emergency care unit, renovation of the operating room and addition of a computerized patient care information system. The club also accomplished a five-year goal of raising $10 million toward the Hoag Women's Pavilion, which is now known as the Sue & Bill Gross Women's Pavilion.
Since its founding in 1966, the 552 Club has raised more than $15 million for Hoag Hospital. The grand tradition of philanthropy envisioned by the club's founders is still in place today, as is the original annual membership fee of $100.
