TOSHIBA CLASSIC GENERATES OVER $1 MILLION TO ORANGE COUNTY CHARITIES
Newport Beach, CA, May 12, 2009 - Setting the standard for PGA Champions Tour charitable contributions, Hoag Hospital and the Toshiba Classic announced today the tournament’s final contributions are set at over $1 million for the tenth consecutive year, including $905,000 in cash contributions to Hoag Hospital and other community charities. As well, over $150,000 worth of laptops donated to local high schools by Toshiba America Information Systems as part of the tournament’s “Shot from the Top” event.
“The success of the Toshiba Classic starts with the commitment to community led by Toshiba, the support of our sponsor family and our hard working volunteers who are all dedicated to Hoag Hospital and our community,” said Ira Garbutt, Tournament Chairman.
On Sunday, fans witnessed Eduardo Romero, known to his fans as “El Gato”, take control on the back nine and win his fourth Champions Tour title over Joey Sindelar and Mark O’Meara.
The Toshiba Classic
Hoag Hospital Foundation produces the annual Toshiba Classic. During the last 12 years, the Toshiba Classic has raised more than $12 million for charity, the most on the Champions Tour. Televised to an international audience on Golf Channel, the Toshiba Classic enables millions of viewers to see some of Orange County’s greatest attractions.
