PGA TOUR Champions Update – December 20, 2017
BEST ROUNDS OF 2017
As we are counting down our last days of 2017, lets look back at the best rounds from the 2017 PGA TOUR Champions season. Check out number three and Charles Schwab Cup Champion, Kevin Sutherland.
Player: Kevin Sutherland
Tournament: Charles Schwab Cup Championship
Relation to par: 8 under
Key to round: Sutherland turned a solid round into a special one with an eagle on the par-5 18th, in which he said he stiped a 4-iron from 231 yards to within 6 feet. “That was the best 4-iron I’ve hit in awhile,” Sutherland said.
What it meant: Coming into the season finale, everyone on PGA TOUR Champions would have told you Sutherland was the best player out here who had never won a tournament. He had 37 top 10s and eight runner-up finishes since joining in late 2014, but not a single trophy and winner’s check. He changed all of that in the biggest way possible at the Schwab Cup Championship, winning the tournament and the Schwab Cup in the process. It was all set up by his stellar second round in which he beat every one in the field by at least two shots. “I got some momentum early, which I’ve been kind of lacking a little bit lately,” Sutherland said. “So if you get some momentum early, it’s really nice, and the round just kind of fell into place.” Sutherland was bogey-free on the round and hit 17 greens in regulation.
