2017 Toshiba Classic Scholarship Award Finalists Awarded a Toshiba Laptop Computer at February 23 Event
For the 17th year, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. and Hoag Charity Sports are extending their community outreach by providing scholarships to local graduating high school seniors. Students were selected through an extensive application and interview process. Today the eleven finalists each received a Toshiba laptop computer during a ceremony held at Hoag Hospital Irvine Auditorium.
This year, 11 schools in the Newport-Mesa, Irvine, and Tustin school districts were selected to participate. The finalists include:
Beckman High School: Elaine Huang
Corona del Mar High School: Caroline Wood
Costa Mesa High School: Sarah Catania
Estancia High School: Samantha Haynes
Foothill High School: Sitlaly Avelino
Irvine High School: Andrew Liao
Newport Harbor High School: Jose Manuel A La Torre
Northwood High School: Sanha Yoon
Tustin High School: Sarita Giri
University High School: Aurnov Chattopadhyay
Woodbridge High School: Matthew Kim
“Every year we are amazed at the accomplishments of the Toshiba Classic Scholarship candidates both in and outside of the classroom and this year’s group of finalists are no different,” said Mark Simons, President and CEO, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. “Our 11 finalists balance challenging academic course loads with a commitment to serving the community and epitomize what the Toshiba Classic Scholarship represents. These students are truly the best and brightest our community has to offer.”
In addition to receiving a laptop, three of the finalists will also be selected to each receive a $5,000 scholarship later this spring. Through 17 years of the scholarship program, which is co-sponsored by Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. and Hoag Charity Sports, a total of 196 Toshiba laptops and $324,000 will have been awarded to outstanding Orange County high school students.
